Winter Weather Advisory now In Effect Until 9 AM EST /8 Am
Cst/ Friday...
the winter weather advisory is now in effect until 9 AM EST /8 am
cst/ friday.
* a cold front will pass through the region today, changing any
rain over to snow showers. this transition is occurring now over
southwest indiana, and will likely occur around noon along the
i-65 corridor, and roughly during the afternoon hours for the
bluegrass region of kentucky.
* scattered moderate to sometimes heavy snow showers will produce
light snow accumulations by tonight. areal average snow
accumulations of around 1 inch are forecast, but the heavier
snow showers could produce pockets of up to 2 inches of snow. in
addition, snow showers combined with gusty winds of 30 to 40
mph will create near white out conditions at times, especially
during the afternoon-evening commute. these winds will also
create near zero wind chills overnight into friday morning.
* plummeting temperatures behind the cold front will allow wet
roadways to freeze, creating slick travel conditions from this
evening through early friday morning. motorists should prepare
for slick road conditions. slow down, allow plenty of space
between yourself and other drivers, and allow extra time to
arrive at your destination.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while
driving.
